I am really starting to like the class. However, there are still some things that I'm going to have to get used to. IE... how there are no notes and how everything is "learn it yourself". I think it would alleviate some of the stress if Mr. Fisher did the Do Knows for homework the day before the homework was due. They serve as an example and would really help the students to get started with a basic understanding. ;D

i totally agree. the homework is often confusing and a do know before would be lots of help. Also, if there was a way to do a little bit more group work for the first bit of the year that would be helpful. I know I feel more comfortable in new situations when I have someone to help me out. [

OMG...the hw (contract 1 for forces) makes no sense..we have to do 20 problems, but there aren't 20 in the lesson, and there def. aren't 10 plug and chug problems..i don't know what to do.

I thought the practice test was extremely helpful because it gave me a good estimate of how well I understood the material and what I needed to study for the test. Also the do nows almost every class have been really helpful.

Yeah, I must agree, the practice test really helped me see what I need to go over and what I am good at. Also, to Mr. Fisher, I know that you said we cant use the practice test as our help sheet, but what if I made a copy of it, then added other notes to it, instead of having to right it all down all over again¿

simply photocopying the practice test DOES NOT work. It seems a logical thing to do, but it's a short cut to avoid the harder task of writing it out. If you write things out in long hand, things DO happen in your mind that HELP you to internalize the information, what we call learning.
So NO, photocopying the practice test is not an option.

I agree with Hillary, I don't like the learn-it-yourself in a class as difficult as physics. But hey who doesn't enjoy a good challenge?

The ITS system has been hard for me to get used to, but the "self-learning" concept is going to be just like college. I am glad that I have a chance to learn how to teach myself the concepts now instead of going off to college not knowing how to teach myself the information I need to learn.

It's also nice that even though we teach ourselves, Mr. Fisher does his very best and helps us if we ever had a problem on something, unlike some other teachers who dont care as much about 1on1 situations

That's why I "teach" the way I do. Student-centered learning is a challenge, but that is the way school, college, life is. I wish ever student would read your post and think about it.

PHYSICS IS FUN (well kind of) I think that Mr. Fisher more funny than the actual subject is fun. Anyways, I'm really starting to get the hang of ITS, it is teaching me better study habits, and a lot of cheesy jokes!!!!! My study habits get better and better each unit that we study and I am beginning to start my homework before the night before it's DUE. (I never thought that would happen) I hope everone has FUN next PHYSICS class.....

I agree, it is more fun than i thought it would be. I think I'm understanding more of the concepts, and I like the freedom to choose activities that I need to do. Hey, Mr. Fisher, did B4 get 100% on the scavenger hunt?

B4 cames the clsoest any class has come in obtaining a 100% on the Scavenger Hunt Activity (Levels Guide). But there were three students with at least one wrong answer on one question. Human nature wins again!
However, I was impressed with the way B4 worked together to try to earn a perfect class score. So everyone in B4 who had all the answers correct earned +1, plus an additional +1 for TEAMWORK!
Bravo Zulu to B4!
