I think that the base grade for the units should be a 90 and not an 88. I think this because to get an A on a unit, you have to do at least 5 extra credits, which is a little overboard.

XC is so easy in this class! Two types: Quality Points and Easy Bonus Points QP is going above expectations on contract work and/or extra contracts; EBP are +1 Team Spirit, +1 Suggestion BOx, +1 Message Board. Easier QP are additional Physics Quizzes (many students simply max out PQ and get a quick +5 so they start with 88+5 = 93, then add all three EBP = 98 and then usually do glencoe quizzes, or surf the net to get 100+. 88 forces students to work somewhat for an A, a little harder for a high A. Hard work should be rewarded with higher grade. 90 would be too easy, 85 may be better, but I'll stick with 88.

i really do agree with mr.fisher on this subject. i've actually had this conversation with multiple people now. you have to think though, whats an "average" grade? a C, right? that means mr.fisher could start everyone out with an 84, and it could still be considered a decent grade. but, he starts us out with an 88. furthermore, what is an A? its "above average", which means you have to do above average work in order to be considered above average. one must go above and beyond "average" level. and honestly, xc is rather easy, and generally its alot of fun too, plus the more extra work you do, the more you understand the concepts, the better you do on your tests!

If you go to the General Board and browse around, you can find a thread about the ITS grading system that presents pros and cons of the "88+" system that I use. Nearly 20 students gave me feedback on what they thought was reasonable and fair and met my need to challenge every student to learn, yet allowed students who wanted to work harder for a higher grade by doing extra work, the chance to do so. I really like the new way that out contracts are written. I got more done durring this unit than I have in other units and i think that is why. I think that we should continue in this format.

I was wondering if there was any organized sheet that documented a majority of XC opportunities. Like you said to an earlier post, XC is, for the most part, pretty easy in this class. However, sometimes it's hard to keep up with some of the XC opportunities. If we could have a list or even a reminder (which is already done very often) of various XC opportunities it would be very helpful.

Yes, I agree. Also, I was wondering whether you could give more extra credit problem sheets, since some students would rather do those than, say poems, even though some students learn better using poetry, art, and other creative ways.

Extra Credit Opportunities:
- Easy XC: Team Spirit, MB, SB, HS, SG - Other XC: Articles, HW Percentage, PQ Bonus (for extra quizzes and 100's), Glencoe Quizzes, and anything that Mr. Fisher deems "quality work."

I was wondering if you could explain a few physics quizzes problems to me in class tomorrow? Will there be a lot of conceptual problems on this Friday's wave test?
