My theme this past summer was "Nationals". First I attended a two week educators' NASA workshop sponsored by the National Areanautical Institute. One week was at Langley in Virginia where I saw a windtunnel capable of speeds of Mach 25! (That's 25 times the speed of sound, about how fast the Space Shuttle travels in orbit). We'll study that! Then I attended the AAPT National Meeting in Syracuse, NY where I presented a paper on ITS and also chaired the High School Committee as I'm the current National Area Chair. Finally, in early August I competed in the Masters Track and Field National Championships held at the UNCC track. I ran the 100, 200, 400 meter races, long jumped, tripled jumped, and ran in the 4x100 and 4x400 relays for the 50-54 age group. I would like to say I won a National Championship, but my best performances were 3rd in the long and triple jumps, and 8th in the 200 meters.

This summer my biggest trip was going to Alaska with a program called Moondance. Basically I arrived at the airport in Anchorage, meeting 12 others from around the US, and three leaders. We slept in tents the whole time, and everything we needed we carried on our backs. We backpacked for 10 days in the Alaskan tundra, then a helicopter brought a new supply of food, and rafts for a 2 day rafting trip. After that we spent 5 days sea kayaking near loads of glaciers. A total of some of the best 3 weeks of my life!

(yay i just figured out how to make an account) So during my summer, i volunteered at cubscout camp the week right after school got out. Then i went to my mom's house in DC (my parents our divorced) and spent pretty much the rest of my summer there. I also volunteered at another day camp, this time though, at the ymca. I met a lot of cool people and hung out quite a bit with my friends up there in maryland. I went to 6 flags america, for those who don't know, its like carowinds, but bigger. And the coolest bit was we visited West Point in NY for the weekend. My brother is applying for WPMA and the campus is beautiful!
So yeah, that was basically my summer... ~Elizabeth

My summer was pretty freakin' sweet, I have to say. First I went on a trip to Israel with a group from my temple. We went to Jerusalem, Haifa, Tel Aviv, some kibbutzes, and canoed on the Jordan River. It's such a different world out there: we're all worried about whether or not we'll pass the driver's license test, and those kids are worried about whether they are going to get blown up or not (literally. don't think i'm exaggerating). I met some really cool people at our sister synagogue and learned much Jewish history (though, according to my tour guide, who is (strangely) at my house right now, there is no such thing as Jewish history, only Jewish memories). After that I got a 2 day break at home, then up to the Cedar Mountains for Blue Ridge Expeditions at the Green River Preserve (BRX @the GRP). SO fun. I made tons of friends and we hiked in Pisgah national forest (substantial, at least 20 miles, probably more) and didn't use a real toilet or shower for 2 weeks. still tons of fun! Last but not least, I got a 3 week break and then back to my last camp in Minnesota, Concordia Language Villages (Spanish Camp at Marine on St. Croix). Big deal name but really just a fun camp where a bunch of kids who didn't want to go in the first place (and believe me, no one wanted to be there) learn that they actually enjoy the atmosphere of no English for 2 weeks. I went knowing no one and came back with a group of really close friends from around the country (even one in London). I still keep in touch though it was close to a month ago. Big deal for me.
Long post. I had a really good summer, as you can telll. I even had a Harry Potter marathon day where I read all of them in a row. Superfun. Fue genial.
Hasta luego y bueno suerte en todo. -Hannah h

Okkkay so my summer was pretty much amazing in a nut shell. I started it off by going to costa rica. We staying in San jose and worked in a Nicaraguan refugee camp called La carpio. We also went on a cable tour(zip lines) through a rain forest and i now understand why it is called a rainforest... i was soaked to the bone. I came back went to the beach, hung out and played tennis for four hours everyday. I miss summer

Well, even though I'm a little late on posting this, my summer was pretty cool. I started off by going to Holden Beach for two weeks with my moms side of the family. Then I had a week or so of nothing, until I started Drivers Ed. After that was over, I celebrated my birthday. Shortly after that it was time for me to go back to Drivers Ed for the driving portion. As soon as that was over (literally I didn't even have time to get my permit ) I headed off to Hawaii. I flew there on the 12 hour or so flight with my two cousins to go see my grandparents. We stayed there for two weeks in my grandparents condo. We went snorkeling, swimming, and on a helicopter ride over the volcano. This trip was the highlight of summer, and ended it on a great note because i had to go back to school right when i got home.
