My theme this past summer was "Nationals". First I attended a two week educators' NASA workshop sponsored by the National Areanautical Institute. One week was at Langley in Virginia where I saw a windtunnel capable of speeds of Mach 25! (That's 25 times the speed of sound, about how fast the Space Shuttle travels in orbit). We'll study that! Then I attended the AAPT National Meeting in Syracuse, NY where I presented a paper on ITS and also chaired the High School Committee as I'm the current National Area Chair. Finally, in early August I competed in the Masters Track and Field National Championships held at the UNCC track. I ran the 100, 200, 400 meter races, long jumped, tripled jumped, and ran in the 4x100 and 4x400 relays for the 50-54 age group. I would like to say I won a National Championship, but my best performances were 3rd in the long and triple jumps, and 8th in the 200 meters.
