If I were the teacher I would..... come to think of it, I am the teacher! Please use this suggestion box to share your ideas on any aspect of ITS. You may want to comment on how I'm teaching, although ratemyteachers.com is a better forum for that. Or you may have advice to share with other students on good ways to learn. Or you are just having a "Bad Hair" day and want to vent.....although please watch your words. Whatever, if you post a suggestion, it's +1XC, but the limit is +1 XC per unit.
First five students to post in either Physics I or MYIB earns double bonus points!

So far I've only used the Macs during student time and they're pretty hard to understand. Actually, it's probably cause i just ate lunch. It lso seems that a lot of our notes are redundant, having taken notes multiple times for the same material. I dunno, maybe that'll help me learn.

if i were the teacher..which im not..but if am, i would probably have done the same thing Mr. Fisher has done with the whole ITS thing and the student mode is pretty fly. But i think the homework is pretty challenging for the first time at least, so I would tell the kids to do more note taking and remeber the formulas before the attemp to do homework. Other than that, life is good..im gonna go eat some pop tarts

Good advice Peter!
Doing a few contracts.....perhaps even reading the book!....is good to do before getting too far into the homework.
But everyone has his or her own style! Some like to Ready, Fire, Aim! Others like to Ready, Aim, Fire!

It also seems that a lot of our notes are redundant, having taken notes multiple times for the same material. I dunno, maybe that'll help me learn. Actually, you are right in that the notes ARE redundant! That will change as I get to know my students and allow more choices for contracts. At first, I find it best to rotate students through as many stations as time allows ---- LVD, MAC, PQ, etc --- to get the "feel" for how each learning station works for them. In future units, students get to choose between MAC or LVD and eventually, both will be completely optional.

if i was the its physics teacher... i would probably have to warn students about how the contract works, and how bad it is to procrastinate.... and how bad it could hurt you. I think if i was a teacher i would have a sheet of paper telling when is the best time to do an assignment so you dont have to do a plethora of work the day before contract turn-in.

Work steadily in class. Complete at least one, if not two contracts per day. Read previous students' letters to hear what they say about the dangers of procrastination.
Stay on task. Learn to manage your resources so you can minimize stress and maximize success!
Your most important resource is your time.

if i were the teacher I would go over more of the problems that we will be doing on our homework during class. Because even though we are learning the equations and such during student mode it can be hard to apply some of the concepts. many times i don't know where to even start on a problem, and i would rather get it right the first time instead of miss it three or four times when submitting it.

I try to chose HW-like problems to do as Do K(N)ows. That should help students do some of the HW problems. For other problems, work together and compare answers and problem solving strategies .....before submitting your answers!

if i were a the teacher, I would....let there to be more student time and that we cant work on the contracts for a longer time in class and also to do more problems in our groups, and pratice problems in our groups by ourselves instead of just copying it off the board. I would also just keep most things the same because everything is mostly working out.

[shadow=red,left,300][/shadow]If I were the teacher I would probably make sure to get updated videos. Maybe even take the videos that we currently watch (like, oh, I don't know, the video with the cheerleaders) and slow it down so everyone can copy down information without feeling like their head is about to explode with all the information coming at them. Other than that, I would try to make sure that all students stayed on task and didn't do homework for other classes, but also that the students doing physics work had an equal opportunity to get their work done (like computer usage and stuff like that). ITS isn't Idiotic Teaching System anymore, it's turned into Interesting the Student. (a litle cheesy, but it fits.) ;D

If i were the teacher...i would definitely give my students a little bit more time than mr. fisher ;D. I'd also try to teach all concepts (slowly) before we start to actually try to learn them by ourselves. Other than that i'd probably do things like Mr. Fisher.

If I were teacher... i would attempt to get more MACs. Not enough MACs to support a class of 30. Also, like someone said, less notes (LVD OR MAC) ;D

hey everyone it's stuart, and im here with my two cents. In my opinion, Mr. Fishers ITS class is almost flawless, that is if you maximize your time. I dont have any real complaints other then we might be able to use a little more student mode. But other then that, id say that everything is grand in CB-20. Well ill see all you tomorrow, ive now gotta go study for the test.
