I am commited to the concept of an "A"TEAM to help challenge my students who have a high Aptitude for learning and a good Attitude towards learning. However, I need FEEDBACK from "A"TEAM members (or non-members too!) to help tweak the program. Please respond to this thread in general and share your thoughts about the "A"TEAM. One question I would like students to answer is "What should the minimum requirements for contracts be for "A"TEAM members?"

On A team I just liked doing what I always did -- lots of PQ, GQ, maybe a HW, lectures, and videos because I got on the A team by doing well on tests after those contracts, and by continuing to do those same contracts kept doing well on tests and learning material.

Maybe the A-Team should be more oriented towards helping out other students. I think some students get lost in the shuffle and maybe the A-Team can swell their ranks by tutoring the B/C average students.
I don't know that there should be other special expectations beyond helping out other students.

I think that A-team is a good concept. However, having gone through it for the majority of the year I feel there could be a few improvements. Since this is the end of the year I will finally reveal the truth about the "real A-team"......Our workload is in MOST CASES less than the standard contract. Although we have the same number of contracts, most of us just basically fill it up to the requirement, while only using one or two contracts to really learn the material. The rest of the contracts are...well.. "fill space contracts" in a way. Don't take this the wrong way, but I would approximate 70 percent of all A-team people would have to reluctantly agree with me. (except B0-SHAN and extremely hard workers) In essence, maybe a homework assignment and PQ's are enough for getting a high b or an A on a test. What I dislike immensely is the fact teacher's giving us prac. after prac. after prac......trying to hammer it into our brain using reptition. Would it not be better if we the students or teachers just taught ourselves and students once but with super high quality and effort. That way, not only do we move faster, but also it saves the teacher and student time and energy. Unfortunately this probably won't work for everyone...o well life isn't fair.

well i agree wit henry and many of the others who have posted.....me being an A-team member i feel that some1 else shuld say this but i REALLY like the idea of A-team members helping/tutoring non A-team members....in many cases this will help out both students....not just the non-Ateamer.....I believe that along with what everyone else has said you could mayb require this helping/tutoring as a contract....I know im jumping around but whatever....I wholeheartedly agree with henry....most teachers require waaaay 2 much PRACTICE......especially for "A-team" members and I believe this is the real idea of the A-team...to substitute enrichment for the practice.....but whatever you do decide to do...do not get rid of the A-team....it has helped a lot of us learn physics

Well, I'm not going to name any names, but I think most people would agree that the A-team do not really need to learn how to do problems and only pretend to do contracts when they are really just talking most of class. That's how they end up on the A-team, by being good at doing problems if they have the formula. What seperates the A-team from everyone else? how good they are at math. Its no surprise that most A-team members are above algebra 2. It probably makes sense for there to be an A-team, because since they are a year ahead in math, but they should have to do something other than just talking all class. And its not fair that they don't have to do homework just because they skipped a year of math in elementary school or something. Homework never helps me, but i still have to do it. Not fair.

for your information Henry I would be a year ahead of you if I had gotten credit for taking Algebra/ geometry double blocked in 7'th grade, but noooooo, Mrs. Mondell just had to make me take it again, even though i had straight A's during both years. So on the contrary henry, i did work hard and if I had gotten all the credit i earned, I'd be a year ahead of you in math.
