USe this space to tell me what you would do if were the teacher! Remember, you have 180 students with many different learning styles. Think about how you can help each student learn. Share your ideas. I will listen.

I'd use PowerPoints on the TV's as opposed to the white boards, because it's very hard to read them and the info is really crammed in. Lots of people have to look at someone else's notes instead of listening because of this.

I think it'd definitely help if you didn't take as much class time but keep up with the do knows..just don't get too carried away with your stories!

i totally agree with the past posts and i feel as though if sometimes we did things as a class once in a while we would have more 'team spirit' ;D. for example when we watch videos, everyone does it and sometimes when mr.fisher stops the video so that we could work out a problem and yell the answer out as a class. i really enjoy doing things in groups since you can help eachother out and we make new friends ...if only we had more...

i like the do knows..they really help....i think that we should take more notes from each section from each chapter..instead of overviewing the chapter only on the first day.. because i dont get the information down pat..and the notes would help when completing the difficult homework..but otherwise i like the freedom of the its classroom.. ;D

The Do(K)nows are really mini-lectures to highlight key concepts from each section. For other topics, such as friction, I will do a special "mini-lecture" to help students gain an understanding. Thanks for the feedback!

if i was mr fisher i would give out the practice tests TWO or THREE days before the test so if the class has any problems, there will always be an extra day that i could go around to answer any questions. Otherwise, some students who don't understand the questions on the practice test don't always have time right before the test to figure out how to solve it with mr fisher.

I tried this once and most students did not even look at the test until the class before. (There would be exceptions). The class before the test is actually two days before the test and should give students time to work the test. Most students are not ready for the PT until after they do all the HW and Do (K)nows on days 1, 2 and 3 of a 5 day unit. I also don;t make the PT until day 3 so I can ensure it's about material that we cover.

I agree with everyone that Do (K)nows are REALLLLLYYYY helpful! I think getting the most student-mode into the class period as possible would be helpful. Also, making sure to answer questions the students have or help them when they are confused on an individual basis. I know sometimes when I have been confused it has been hard to find time to ask you! I guess thats hard to change though since there are about 30 of us and only one teacher! I think the powerpoint idea is great... it seemed to work really well with friction the other day!

I have to agree with everyone, too, the Do Knows are incredibly helpful! The powerpoints are good too, because it makes it easier to read than the stuff on the white board. The most student mode time is also helpful b/c friends can help you figure stuff out and you can help friends out! Just make sure you are aware that there are several students who need your help and get around to all of them!

For me, Do Knows don't work too well. IMO, it's harder to understand problems when the teacher is doing it up on the board. It's easier when you do problems in a group, such as with practice tests - everyone can contribute, and you really get to work through the problems in detail, and it's easier to ask questions.

For the practice tests, I would hand them out day 3/5 instead of 4/5 of the unit. That way, students can take them home, try to figure out the problems themselves, and return on day 4/5 with questions or concerns. You could either go over each problem, or have students get into groups and work with one another and help each other out!

I do like that we have started doing the do knows before that night's assigned homework because it does help! Also, I like that we have alot of freedom in class because talking about the concepts with the students does help.

Although i found the practice test helpful, i would have to agree with Katherine. I think that it would have been much more beneficial for people to ask you questions about the practice test earlier on in the unit.
