I like the idea of having the practice test two days before the actual test, too. Then, a couple of Do (K)nows could be done on the board from the practice test. Also, maybe a student could practice his/her teaching skills and show a group how to approach certain problems. Overall, I do like the practice tests in general.

For now on I am calling the practice test P-FATs Practice - Fisher Aptitude Test (btw SAT no longer stands for Scholastic Aptitude Test officially and is now just an acronym)

If I were the teacher, I would not have contracts and the test on the same day...I'm gonna be up awhile...

But does it make sense to have contracts, meant to help you gain an understanding of the concepts so you can demonstrate your understanding on a test, after the test? Students who work at a steady pace to do contracts.....about 1-2 contracts every class....have less stress and generally higher scores on the tests. Students who leave contracts to do the night before the test have more stress. Re-read letters from last year's students on the perils of procrastination in ITS.

I'd like to see more experiments or labs with physics.. I know its still early in the units, but they really help you visualize, and almost 'feel' the concepts.
I also wish there was an option for an extended project or experiment with Physics.. Sort of like a project, but over the entire quarter. It could count as a contract each unit, and could be some creative experiment or project to do with physics. It could even be optional, as a contract per quarter with some XC opportunities. That way we could apply and bridge ourselves across the different units and have some opportunity to have fun while doing it. Maybe even a group project.. Then at the end of the quarter, we could have a presentation day with people bringing in food or drink, and it would be a nice looking forward to at the end of each quarter...

I like DJ's idea about students teaching other students. It would be a way to ensure that student knew about the topic... sounds like a good idea, it also emphasizes the students teaching themselves concept that ITS centers on.

Well, its contract time again, and once again I'm up till the day the contracts are due... Fo' real though, If I were the teacher I would not ignore those with high grades on the tests. Sometimes we need help too.

Lucas and others! Go for it! There is an option for students to suggest/propose their own contracts.....including longer term projects! It's called "Let's Make A Deal!". On the subject of labs....I would like to do more overall, but with limited space in the room, I need to find labs like the pendulum lab can be done quickly with little equipment ....and even be done at home. I really like your idea of a group project that extends over a longer time.

Have longer units It is easier to fully understand all the material when we have longer to learn it and remember it

I personally like to do the practice test the day before the test to make sure I've got everything down, but it may be helpful to some students to be able to work on it a few days in advance and come back to class to get any questions answered. I really like group contracts, because hearing from other students always helps me a ton. Making student mode as long as possible always helps us get contracts done, too.

If I were the teacher, I would bring in guest speakers who did physics everyday.

I don't think you would want me to sing or play the guitar! But any student may do this for XC if teh song is about physics! Go for it! Mr Fisher
