we also need more of the concepts taught to us, not just the equations. We should know "why", not "how" first.

wow, there are so many good suggestions here! I think schoolnotes.com is the most helpful to students, for keeping organized and everything. I agree with kevin too, and also I know that some people can maybe pick out an equation to use but don't know how to use it right. Going over as a class some commonly missed questions on tests could help, too.

we also need more of the concepts taught to us, not just the equations. We should know "why", not "how" first. Why is a deeper question, often more suitable for the next level of physics. Every concept, velocity for instance, is simply a name we agree to give to something we observe. Something goes at a certain speed in a certain direction and we agree to call that velocity. Why it goes a certain speed is because of the impulse applied (another concept!). Concepts are interrelated and hyperphysics.com does a great job of showing relationships between concepts. Mr Fisher

I agree with Kevin and Caroline about learning concepts. I think there should be some Do (K)nows about concepts too, not just equations.

I think that maybe some more do (k)nows would help, but the current chapter we are in right now is actually pretty easy for me, so maybe in the future chapters to come, if there are some more do (k)nows they would help us with any problems we have...

I really like the list of contracts, where you could choose one. It helps you to pick the ways you think you'll learn best. If i were the teacher, i would hand out photocopies of notes/formulas from the chapter as well as doing overview lectures and notes. casey vantassell

I like Casey's idea about handing out a formula/important concept sheet! This would help students stay organized and have all the equations and important ideas right at their fingertips. Maybe a student could make this for extra credit or something (to use next year I guess since we would already have to have done the unit)
I guess you could say the overview lecture usually gives you this information... but it would still be nice to have it all there in one place and neat for you
work and energy test wednesday! AHHHH!!!

lobby for a bigger classroom. The classroom is way too small to fit 30 kids, I can never walk through the aisles without jumping over something or someone. It also gets way to loud in class, because everything and everybody is squeezed together. We definately need a larger classroom like the Biology or Chemistry rooms.

I think a lot of people are going to be happy that we received the practice test early this unit, but I think it's better to get them later. Being on A-Team, I usually use the Practice Test as a review before the test, after completing enrichment, etc, but this time, I started working on it right when I got it. I'm probably going to rework the problems anyways, but I think I preferred the previous method of waiting before handing out the practice test.

I agree i like getting the practice test earlier .. and also i wish that you would reincorporate some do-knows since we havent had those in awhile.. and its always easier when you see an example before attempting it yourself.

If i were a teacher i would give out the practice tests earlier in the unit and have students ask questions about it at the beginnig of every class until the day of the test!

I think that giving notes either powerpoint style or even overhead style would improve learning, by allowing traditional learners learn the way the Like!!!! I also think that making contract due dates, other than the day of the test, might help people to not procrastinate and complete the assignments on time, instead of last minute. One more thing, i think worksheets of some kind where we can work on the problems, other than just the practice test, could improve learning of concepts!!! Just a few ideas, other than that class is GREAT!!!!!!!

work and energy test wednesday! AHHHH!!! I agree with the concept because it would be an easy alternative... however, the student must take initiative to discover concepts by themselves... at least, that's my imput on the matter.

Yeah, I used to practice test as a quick wake up call 7:00 the day of the test... I'm joking (or am I?). I liked the system where I could take the practice test before the test to see if I understood concepts, rather than treating it like a worksheet.
